Workshop

Contact improvisation as a non-hierarchical practice

July 31 09:15 - 10:45 @ Chapel Room #1
A workshop exploring the contact improvisation as a non-hierarchical dance practice where roles and constellations are spontaneously decided and can change at any moment.

It is a completely improvised dance form where we will tap into the physical awareness of our own bodies as a starting point for exchanging with others. Physical touch will be a further exploration that expands into directions such as sharing of weight, giving and receiving impulses and offering the surfaces of our body as a ground for another person. Through the expanded awareness of our physical possibilities and a playful approach, it seems to be possible to slow down or speed up time as well as uncovering a reality that is characterized by interconnectedness a

The weight of you lifts me up I go down to see something new I forgot my feet in the air Now you took them and put them in your mouth and smile

Klara and Ellen are dancers, choreographers and art makers. They have received their dance education at Löftadalens danslinje in Åsa(SWE), at NEFCD in Härnösand(SWE) and at Fontys dance academy in Tilburg (NL). They share an interest in the usage and discovery of the full body. They are interested in the voice as a body part as well as the union between different bodies in order to rearrange or create new ones. Their fascination with contact improvisation and the use of it as a research method allows for them to enter into a state of mind where one can make use of another person's body or parts as if it was one’s own and the other way around as well, in order to go to places in the exploration that would not be possible on your own.
